How to Clean Your Engagement Ring
Do you remember when you first saw your engagement ring?
You marvelled at how the diamonds sparkled and at the mirror-like shine of the gold. You just couldn’t stop looking at it!
Now after time has passed, the diamonds aren’t as brilliant and the gold doesn’t shine the way that it used to. So, what can you do?
Most people think that you can’t clean an engagement ring safely at home. What if a diamond falls out? What happens it you tarnish or scratch the metal? Thankfully, these fears are unfounded. You can safely clean your engagement ring by yourself and at home by following these steps.
- The first thing that you will need is to get yourself a plain cup and fill it with very warm water. It doesn’t have to be super hot or scalding. Just water that is very warm is what you are looking for. Next, add a little dish soap into the cup. Remember, regular dish washing soap is what you want to use. Never use anything like bleach, strong cleaning products or things that contain moisturizing agents. Your ring is too delicate to handle harsh products like those. Now place your ring into the cup and let it sit in the warm, soapy water for about half an hour. The warm water will soften any grime or dirt that is on the ring while the soap begins to break down any caked-on dirt. After 30 minutes have passed, you are ready for the next step.
- Remove the ring from the water and gently brush the stones using a toothbrush. Toothbrushes are made to be gently in order not to damage the enamel on teeth. It is a great way to finish off the cleaning process.
- Let your engagement ring air dry. Air drying is best since there is no chance that you will scratch the gold with an abrasive cloth. Even paper towels can scratch the gold! If you really want to dry your engagement ring, then use a cloth that is made from cotton. Once the engagement ring has dried, you can now enjoy your sparkling ring once more.
